Not only is Cornelia Carapcea a UMBC undergraduate perusing a double major in Information Systems and Finance, and not only has she earned Dean's List honors in all five of her semesters while studying at UMBC. But, the native of Constanta, Romania is also a UMBC junior tennis standout. In May, ESPN The Magazine recognized her for her athletic accomplishments on the court naming her to the “Academic All-District II women's at-large first team.”

The sports accolades are a result of Carapcea's record of 12-3 this spring at No. 4 singles and a total of 30 match victories (30-13, singles/doubles) throughout the 2007-08 season. In addition to racking up a total of 77 match wins thus far in her UMBC Tennis career, Cornelia also strives for perfection academically, maintaining a perfect 4.00 grade-point average.

The Department of Information Systems congratulates Ms. Carapcea for both her athletic and academic accomplishments.
